PHL Taking Care of Business
The PHL Taking Care of Business (TCB) Corridor Cleaning Program, funded by the City of Philadelphia Department of Commerce, is a cornerstone of our workforce development efforts. It provides paid training and employment opportunities while delivering essential corridor maintenance services throughout Philadelphia.
The TCB program funds community-based organizations to hire, train, and equip Cleaning Ambassadors, who maintain Philadelphia’s commercial corridors. The program aims to:
- Eliminate litter and improve commercial district cleanliness.
- Support local businesses by creating inviting environments for shoppers.
- Create job opportunities for Philadelphians.
- Strengthen small cleaning service businesses.
In Spring 2023, a pilot project funded by the William Penn Foundation and aligned with the Philly Tree Plan was launched to increase tree canopy in underserved areas. TCB Ambassadors are also trained to plant and care for street trees along commercial corridors. Pilot training, co-developed by Commerce and the Overbrook Environmental Education Center, was hosted at OEEC in 2025.
The Wynnefield Overbrook Revitalization Corporation (WORC), in partnership with OEEC, hosts the Wynne-Brook Corridor Maintenance Crew. The OEEC Wynne-Brook team removes litter, dumped materials, car crash debris, and other improperly disposed waste from six business corridors near our OEEC campus.
